Sage has laid out its credentials as a developer of online accounting platforms with the launch of a new Sage Marketplace to present add-on options to users of its Sage One and Sage Live applications.

Launched last month, the marketplace currently includes 56 third-party listings, ranging from to the PwC online accounting service, My Financepartner.

Sage Live, which was built on the Salesforce.com development platform, has an advantage over Sage One in that it can integrate more smoothly with other apps on the same platform. But Sage One still has its own stable of 14 apps, which include the Really Simple CRM app and assorted sales automation tools, plus a number of point of sales and web store integration apps.

In contrast the Xero and QuickBooks app marketplaces boast hundreds of add-ons, but they have had a few years headstart on the Sage platforms, which only emerged in the past year.

The new Sage Marketplace emerged from a revamped global partner program (GPP) that reflects the way Sage is realigning its product lines into brands that operate in many different territories.

“This is just the beginning for the Sage Marketplace,” said Michael De Jongh, vice president of the Sage global ISV and developer program. “Many ISVs [independent software vendors] are joining us to develop extensions to the Sage portfolio of online products and our customers are getting even more value from our global products, like Sage One and Sage Live.”
