Scottish tax codes 2016/2017

Didn't find your answer?

HMRC are in the course of issuing tax codes for the new tax year 2016/2017.  It looks like there may be a problem with those employees who are resident in Scotland, where the tax code issued for the new tax year should have the 'S' prefix.  We are North of the Border and have just received electronic coding notices for a payroll client-. all the employees are resident in Scotland. Of the 26 notices received, 8 do not show the 'S' prefix.  HMRC's employer's helpline say that the 8 employees will have to contact HMRC individually to get their code corrected.  HMRC  say that they are not aware of a problem.  By definition, anybody who is in employment in Scotland should probably receive a coding notice - because of the 'S' prefix being utilised - so it will be interesting to see if other people have a similar experience..

Marching on

Still, we march on with another pie-in-the-sky IT project, instead of getting the ones we already have right first........
